Tasting wine

A question of taste

Wine tasting can give skilled connoisseurs an opportunity to identify a wine in a blind test. It can also be a key stage for any wine lover wishing to get to know a wine. The ceremonial side may surprise or amuse, but the different phases enable us to identify and to describe the aromas and savours of a wine in order better to appreciate it. First of all, we set our eyes to work, assessing the limpidity, the colour and the nuances of the wine. Then we bring the glass to our nose to detect the aromas it releases automatically. After swirling the glass, we breathe in the volatile aromas released by the wine. Finally, the wine hits our taste buds, complementing olfactory sensations with physical sensations such as acidity, depth and structure.
